Shorewomen Compete at ITA Regionals
Daciek Advances to Third Round in Championship Singles

FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- Washington College sophomore tennis player Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) advanced to the third round of Championship Draw Singles at the ITA Southeast Regionals this weekend at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. A total of eight Shorewomen competed in the event across three singles draws and two doubles draws.

Daciek, who was seeded sixth in singles, opened singles play with a 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-3, win over Katie Kingsbury of Washington and Lee. In the second round, she bested Natalie Fugate of Mary Washington, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(6). Ninth-seeded Sheena David of Carnegie Mellon eliminated Daciek in the third round with a 6-2, 6-4, win.

Elsewhere in Championship Draw Singles, freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) won her opening round match against 10th-seeded Stephanie Kurti of Mary Washington, 7-6(6), 6-2. Bull then lost her second round match to Haverford's Laura Chaddock, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) and sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) lost in the first round of Championship Draw Singles. Foster then posted an 8-6 win over Emma Smith of Elizabethtown in her first consolation match and an 8-0 win over Trista McGlothlin of Emory & Henry in her second consolation match. Foster lost to 11th-seeded Alison Liu, 8-2, in the consolation quarterfinals. Leeser won her first consolation match against Julie Crewson of Grove City, 8-4, but lost her second consolation match to Lisa Mabry of Washington and Lee, 8-1.

In Blue Draw Singles, junior Erika Kayukawa (Gifu, Japan/St. Mary's Girls) and senior Lyndsey Beidle (Linthicum, MD/North County) posted three-set wins in round one. Kayukawa bested Natalie Pitts of Christopher Newport, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, while Beidle defeated Diana Ricker of Bridgewater, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2. Kayukawa and Beidle were both eliminated in the second round.

Freshman Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) lost her opening match in Blue Draw Singles, but then defeated Corinne Alcorn of Catholic, 8-3, in her first consolation match, and Lauren Musick of Emory & Henry, 8-2, in her second consolation match before falling the in the consolation quarterfinals.

Sophomore Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) competed in Gray Draw Singles. Sawada lost her opening match, but then defeated Sarah Luffy of Catholic, 8-1, in the consolation quarterfinals and Courtney Vail of Methodist, 8-0, in the consolation semifinals. The consolation final was not held due to time constraints.

Two Washington doubles teams advanced to the second round of Championship Draw Doubles. Daciek and Foster defeated Muhlenberg's Jennifer Powell and Carly Rotfeld in round one, 8-5, but fell to the second-seeded team of David and Amy Staloch of Carnegie Mellon in the second round by a 9-7 final. Bull and Leeser defeated Jenna Adelberg and Emily Townsend of Swarthmore, 8-4, in round one and lost to top-seeded Emily Applegate and Kristen McClung of Washington and Lee, 8-2, in the second round.

Barston and Kayukawa won their opening match in Blue Draw Doubles against Nicole Koiner and Susan Shaver of Mary Baldwin, 8-2, but were eliminated in the second round. Beidle and Sawada went 0-2 in Blue Draw Doubles.

The Shorewomen will play their lone dual match of the fall Saturday, October 8th, at home against Elizabethtown at 2:00 p.m.
