18, 2005 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- Washington College senior women's tennis player Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) captured the Flight D singles title and teamed with freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) to win the Flight D doubles title at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational held Friday through today in Virginia Beach, VA. After advancing by default in round one of singles, Foster defeated Howard's Ayana Hipolite, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Foster topped Lenise Carnage of Norfolk State, 6-3, 6-1, and in the final, she bested Marian Blancada of Howard, 6-4, 7-5. Foster and Bull defeated Fame Goudy and Donita Peterson of Norfolk State, 8-1, in the semifinals of Flight D doubles. In the finals, they topped another Norfolk State tandem - Carnage and Andrea Degirmenic, 8-4. Bull also reached the final of Flight C singles. She won her first round match against American's Ali Harrison, 7-6, 6-2, and her quarterfinal match against Old Dominion's Meredith Cutchin, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. In the semifinals, Bull bested Longwood's Jessica Farr, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Bull then lost to James Madison's Catherine Phillips, 6-2, 6-4, in the final. Washington sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) lost her opening match in Flight B singles, but won her next two matches to advance to the consolation final. She defeated Tracy Ross of North Carolina A&T, 6-2, 6-1, in the consolation quarterfinals and Lauren Graham of James Madison, 6-4, 6-2, in the consolation semifinals. Jennifer Itonyo of Norfolk State defeated Daciek, 7-5, 7-6(6) in the consolation final. Daciek competed in Flight C doubles with Old Dominion's Cutchin, but lost her first round match. Consolation doubles matches were not held. The Washington College women's tennis team will compete at the ITA Southeast Regionals at Mary Washington September 24th-26th. |
