October 8, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Elizabethtown College defeated host Washington College, 5-4, in a women's tennis dual match today at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Blue Jays improved to 8-2 this season with the win, while the Shorewomen lost their only dual match of the fall. Elizabethtown jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Heather Lander and Kristy Trimbey posted an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles. Washington sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) evened the score with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) gave the Shorewomen a 2-1 lead with a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles. Foster picked up Washington's third point of the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, but Laurelyn Foderaro was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles to trim the lead to 3-2. Daciek finished off a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, win at No. 1 to put Washington up, 4-2. The Blue Jays posted wins in the final three singles contests to finish to claim the match. Alice Yu tied the score with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, win at No. 4. Heather Lander completed a 6-4, 6-0, win at No. 5 singles shortly before Kristy Trimbey gave Elizabethtown the win by completing a 7-5, 6-2, win at No. 6. The Shorewomen will open their spring season February 24th with a 4:00 p.m. match at The College of New Jersey. |
