9, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, bounced back from an early deficit to post a 7-2 Centennial Conference win over visiting Dickinson this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shorewomen improved to 12-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play with their seventh consecutive victory, while the Red Devils fell to 7-5 and 2-3. Dickinson took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Washington sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), the 10th-ranked doubles team in the Atlantic South, rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 1, but Anne Kiely and Hana Thompson scored an 8-3 win for Dickinson at No. 2 and Jamie Wolf and Kat Hood notched an 8-4 win at No. 3 to give the Red Devils the 2-1 advantage. Washington then won the first four singles matches to finish to gain the victory. Freshman Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) x recorded a 6-3, 6-0, win at No. 2 singles, while Daciek, the region's 16th-ranked singles player, was a 6-1, 6-2, winner at No. 1. Foster tied gave the Shorewomen a 4-2 lead when she finished her 6-0, 6-4, win at No. 4 and sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-3, win at No. 3. Freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) added a 6-0, 6-2, win at No. 5 for the Shorewomen, while sophomore Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) was a 4-6, 6-3, 12-10, winner at No. 6. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at 25th-ranked Swarthmore. |
