15, 2006 PITTSBURGH, PA -- Host Carnegie Mellon, the 14th-ranked team in Division III and the fourth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Washington College, the eighth-ranked team in the Atlantic South, 8-1, in a women's tennis match today in Pittsburgh, PA. The Tartans improved to 13-5 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 12-5 with the loss. Carnegie swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Mona Iyer and Amy Staloch, the top-ranked doubles tandem in the region, bested sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), 8-4, at No. 1. All three regionally-ranked Carnegie Mellon singles players were winners. Staloch, ranked fourth in the region, bested Daciek, ranked 16th in the region, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5, at No. 1. Iyer, ranked 12th in the region, beat Foster, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, and Sheena David, ranked 20th in the region, defeated WC freshman Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy), 6-0, 7-5, at No. 3. Washington freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) accounted for the Shorewomen's point with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5, win at No. 4. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Bryn Mawr. |
