2, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team, ranked eighth in Division III's Atlantic South region, recorded a pair of 9-0 victories today at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shorewomen first bested Cecil Community College, 9-0, and then picked up a 9-0 win over Centennial Conference foe Ursinus College. The Shorewomen are now 8-3 overall and 3-0 in conference matches this season. Washington picked up two points against Cecil before the match started as a result of Cecil having only five players and defaulting at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Washington sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Lyndsey Beidle (Linthicum, MD/North County) were 8-5 winners at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) and freshman Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) posted an 8-0 win at No. 2. In singles, freshman Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 1, while freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) posted a 6-0, 6-2, win at No. 2 and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) recorded a 6-1, 6-1, victory at No. 3. Freshman Rebecca Davis (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 and sophomore Brittany Borden (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 5. Davis picked up her first collegiate singles win with her victory at No. 4. Against Ursinus, Daciek and Foster, the 10th-ranked doubles team in the Atlantic South, notched an 8-1 victory No. 1 doubles. Beidle and Hossick were 8-2 winners at No. 2, while Barston and Bull recorded an 8-1 win at No. 3. Daciek, who is ranked 16th in singles in the region, recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Ursinus. Bull won, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2, Hossick was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3, and Leeser posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Washington sophomore Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) battled back for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 win at No. 5, while Davis prevailed, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 6. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Haverford. |
