Shorewomen Ground Owls, 8-1
Bull Successful in No. 1 Singles Debut

BRYN MAWR, PA -- Visiting Washington College, the eighth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, handled host Bryn Mawr, 8-1, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon in Bryn Mawr, PA. The Shorewomen improved to 13-5 overall and 8-1 in conference play with the win, while the Owls fell to 6-11 and 2-6 with the loss.

Washington swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) and freshman Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) were 8-2 winners at No. 1, freshman Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) and freshman Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) posted an 8-4 win at No. 2, and senior Lyndsey Beidle (Linthicum, MD/North County) and senior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3.

Bull won her first collegiate No. 1 singles match, 6-2, 6-2. Leeser remained unbeaten in conference singles matches this season at 9-0 with a 6-2, 6-0, win at No. 2. Hossick was a 6-0, 6-1, winner at No. 4, while sophomore Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) rallied for a 6-7(3), 6-1, 10-1, win at No. 5. Freshman Rebecca Davis (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) improved to 4-0 in singles matches in her collegiate career with a 6-4, 6-1, victory at No. 6.

Bryn Mawr's lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Marie Sager was a 7-5, 1-6, 10-7, winner.

Washington played without the services of regionally-ranked sophomore Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park), the Shorewomen's usual No. 1 singles player. "We responded well to having to move people up in the line-up in some spots," commented WC head coach Constantine Ananiadis. "This was a good match to prepare us for a big Centennial Conference match against Muhlenberg Saturday."

The Shorewomen and Mules will play at 12:00 p.m. in Allentown, PA Saturday. The winner of that match will likely be the second seed in the four-team Centennial Conference Playoffs.
