28, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- First-year head coach Constantine Ananiadis picked up a win in his first dual match as the host Washington College women's tennis team blanked visiting Villa Julie, 9-0, this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The match was the dual match season opener for both teams. The Shorewomen scored three quick points by breezing through the doubles portion of the contest. Seniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) won 8-1 at No. 1, while the tandems of junior Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) and freshman Erika Kayukawa (Gifu, Japan/St. Mary's Girls) and sophomores Lyndsey Beidle (Linthicum, MD/North County) and Jaclyn Moore (Wenonah, NJ/Gateway Regional) won their matches by identical 8-2 scores at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. In singles, Browder (No. 1) and Nakamura (No. 2) each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins to capture the top two flights. Halpin was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 3, while senior Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4. Sophomore Sara Custis (Owings, MD/Northern) claimed No. 5 singles by winning a tie-breaker set and posting a 6-3, 2-6, (10-4), victory. Kayukawa won at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. match at St. Mary's (MD).
