8, 2004 SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host Swarthmore College defeated visiting Washington College, 8-1, in Centennial Conference women's tennis action today. Swarthmore is ranked 16th in Division III and fourth in the Atlantic South region, while the Shorewomen are tied for eighth in the region. The Shorewomen captured one of the three doubles matches as seniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin), the region's fifth-ranked doubles team, upended Anjani Reddy and Sonja Reynolds, the fourth-ranked tandem in the Atlantic South, by a 9-7 final. Two regionally-ranked players went head-to-head at No. 1 singles as Reddy, ranked seventh in the region, defeated Browder, ranked fifth in the region, 6-7(6), 6-1, (10-1). Caroline Celano of Swarthmore won another battle of two regionally-ranked singles players at No. 2. Celano, 13th in the region, defeated Nakamura, tied for 21st in the region, 7-6(5), 6-1. The Shorewomen (6-6, 3-4 Centennial) return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Bryn Mawr.
