9, 2004 ROANOKE, VA -- Hollins University, the 10th-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Washington College, 6-3, in non-conference women's tennis action today. The Shorewomen, now 2-1 on the season, are tied for eighth in the Atlantic South rankings. Seniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) accounted for all three Washington points. Browder was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles, while Nakamura was a 7-5, 6-4 winner at No. 2. Together, the pair posted an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Washington was without the services of senior Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), who will miss two more matches this week due to personal reasons. Head coach Constantine Ananiadis noted, "Linda was very much missed. I felt our players fought hard, but Hollins was deeper today. We'll try to rebound Thursday against Sweet Briar." That match, to be played at Sweet Briar, is set for a 4:30 p.m. start time.
