31, 2004 HAVERFORD, PA -- The Washington College women's tennis team improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in Centennial Conference play this season with a 5-4 win over host Haverford today. The Shorewomen won at the top two spots in doubles and three of the top four spots in singles in the victory. Seniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) posted an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while senior Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) and junior Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) were 8-2 winners at No. 2. Browder remained unbeaten in singles this spring with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1. Nakamura won at No. 2 by a 6-3, 6-0 count, while Halpin scored a win at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1. "This was an important win to get under our belts against a good team," remarked WC head coach Constantine Ananiadis. "This gives us a lot of confidence heading into what should be two tight conference matches this weekend against Franklin & Marshall and Dickinson." The Shorewomen will host Franklin & Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Dickinson at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
