27, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in Centennial Conference play this season with a 7-2 win over host Gettysburg College this afternoon. Senior Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) remained unbeaten in singles play this spring with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Browder also won in doubles, teaming with senior Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) to post an 8-3 win at No. 1. Senior Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and junior Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) picked up the Shorewomen's other win in doubles by claiming No. 2, 8-5. Browder, 7-0 at No. 1 this season, led a Washington effort that captured the top five spots in singles play. Nakamura and Halpin won by identical 6-2, 6-3, scores at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Hooks was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 4, while sophomore Jaclyn Moore (Wenonah, NJ/Gateway Regional) pulled out a 7-6(2), 3-6, (10-5) win at No. 5. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday at Haverford with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match.
