2, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team slipped to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in Centennial Conference play with a 6-3 loss to visiting Franklin & Marshall today at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Diplomats improved to 6-3 and 4-1 with the win. Washington opened the match by taking two of the three doubles flights. Senior Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) and junior Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) gave the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead with an 8-3 win at No. 2, while seniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) won the last doubles match to finish, 8-2, to put the Shorewomen up, 2-1, heading into singles play. The Shorewomen extended their lead to 3-1 after Browder posted a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, but the Diplomats won the other five singles matches to come away with the victory. The Shorewomen will play another Centennial Conference home match tomorrow as they host Dickinson at 1:00 p.m.
