19, 2003 COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The Washington College women's tennis team won its Centennial Conference opener and improved to 3-1 overall this season with a 9-0 sweep of host Ursinus this afternoon. Juniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) and sophomore Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, while juniors Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) won 8-6 at No. 3. In singles, Browder and Hufnal posted 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Halpin improved to 4-0 this Spring at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 win. The other three singles matches were played to an eight-game pro set. Nakamura won 8-1 at No. 2, Hooks won 8-0 at No. 4, and Vouros won 8-1 at No. 6. The Shorewomen host Muhlenberg Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The two schools shared the Centennial Conference Team Championship last season.
