8, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) posted a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 1 singles and an 8-0 sweep at No. 1 doubles to celebrate her 21st birthday as the host Washington College Shorewomen topped St. Mary's (MD) College, 8-1, this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center. Browder's win in doubles came playing with junior Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin). The Shorewomen also won at No. 2 doubles, where senior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) and sophomore Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) won, 8-0. The 6-0, 6-0 sweep for Browder at No. 1 singles led a set of six two-set sweeps for the Shorewomen in singles. Nakamura won, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. Hufnal and junior Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) posted 6-0, 6-0, sweeps at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Junior Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) won 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 and Halpin won 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6. Washington, now 2-0 this season, returns to action Monday with a 10:30 a.m. home match against Denison. Denison is tied for 12th in the Division III national rankings.
