2, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team topped visiting Haverford, 6-3, in Centennial Conference action this afternoon. The Shorewomen, now 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play, won at the top four spots in singles and the top two spots in doubles. In doubles, juniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) were 8-1 winners at No. 1, while senior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) and sophomore Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) won 8-5 at No. 2. In singles, Browder posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1, Nakamura won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, and Hufnal was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3. Junior Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, (10-5) win at No. 4. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. home match against Gettysburg.
