16, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 24th-ranked Washington College women's tennis team won its final home match of the season today, defeating visiting Bryn Mawr, 7-2, in Centennial Conference play. The Shorewomen improved to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in conference matches with the win. Washington lost two of three doubles matches, but swept all six singles matches. WC's lone win in doubles came at No. 1, where juniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) posted an 8-0 win. In singles, Browder won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, while Nakamura won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. In the two middle flights, senior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, while junior Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) was a 6-2, 4-0 (ret.) winner at No. 4. Junior Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and sophomore Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) won 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6. The Shorewomen travel to Dickinson for a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday.
