2, 2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College women's swim team improved to 6-2 this season with a 114-68 win over visiting Widener (1-4) on Tuesday evening at the Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen won eight of nine contested events on the evening to extend their non-conference meet winning streak to 51. Junior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area), sophomore Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) and freshman Kelly Dunbar (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) swam the fastest times in two events each for Washington. Gerhart won the 100 and 200 freestyle events with times of 56.71 and 2:04.77 respectively. Glasser captured the 200 butterfly (2:11.60) and the 500 freestyle (5:22.95). Dunbar had the top times in the 200 individual medley (2:19.34) and the 200 breaststroke (2:34.53). Other first place finishers for Washington were senior Cara Choplin (West Deptford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) in the 1000 freestyle (12:04.24) and senior Kimber Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) in the 200 backstroke (2:21.68). The 200 medley relay team of Shoemaker, Dunbar, Glasser and freshman Laura Risell (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) won the event with a time of 1:59.63. Choplin finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:29.53, while freshman Ellen Liebenow (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was second in the 1000 freestyle with a mark of 12:34.02. The Pride captured victory in the 50 freestyle for their lone contested event win of the evening and had the top time in the 200 freestyle relay. The Shorewomen, who have downed the Pride on 15 consecutive occasions, return to action January 3, 2009, at the Orange Bowl Classic in Key Largo, FL at 10:00 a.m.
