Shorewomen Sweep Quad
Glasser Wins Three Individual Events

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College women's swim team downed Bryn Mawr, Randolph-Macon and Sweet Briar to sweep a quad meet this afternoon at the Casey Swim Center in its season opener. The Shorewomen beat Bryn Mawr, 171-26, downed Randolph-Macon, 116-89, and topped Sweet Briar, 161-44. Washington is 3-0 on the season, Randolph-Macon is 2-1, Sweet Briar is 1-2 and Bryn Mawr is 0-3. The Shorewomen are also 1-0 in the Centennial Conference, while Bryn Mawr is 0-1 in conference action with Washington's win over the Owls.

In non-Washington results, Randolph-Macon downed Bryn Mawr, 169-28, and Sweet Briar by a 160.5-44.5 margin. Sweet Briar got the better of Bryn Mawr by a 156.5-40.5 tally.

The Shorewomen won all 11 events against Bryn Mawr and Sweet Briar and eight of 11 versus Randolph-Macon.

Leading the way for Washington was sophomore Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook), who won three individual events for the Shorewomen. Glasser won the 1000 freestyle in 10:59.35, the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.91 and the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:20.60. Junior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) won the 50 freestyle at 25.51 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.17 to capture two events. Also winning two events for the Shorewomen was freshman Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) as she grabbed the 100 freestyle (55.34) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.48). Moore is now fourth-fastest all-time in both events for the Shorewomen. Freshman Kelly Dunbar (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.52 and is now WC's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in the event.

Randolph-Macon grabbed three events on the afternoon. For the Yellowjackets, Hallie Stewart captured victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.58. Randolph-Macon won both relays, the 200 medley relay (1:53.46) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.79). The Vixens of Sweet Briar and Bryn Mawr did not finish first in any event.

Dunbar placed second two events (500 freestyle,5:28.17, and 100 breststroke). Her time in the 100 breaststroke is good for sixth all-time in the event at WC at 1:11.10. Freshman Mary Stroman (Bela Cynwyd, PA/Friends Central) finished second in the 100 freestyle at 57.09. Freshman Morgan Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) was Washington's top finisher in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.89, finishing third behind two Yellowjacket swimmers, which is good for first place against Sweet Briar and Bryn Mawr.

The Shorewomen return to action next Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Gettysburg.
