2009 KEY LARGO, FL - The Washington College women's swim team finished fifth of seven teams at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic this morning in Key Largo, FL. All four teams the Shorewomen finished behind are Division I programs. Duke won the meet, followed by Rutgers in second, George Mason in third, and Stony Brook in fourth. St. Benedict was sixth, which Western Connecticut State finished seventh. The event was held outdoors in the 25-meter pool at the Jacobs Aquatic Center. Three Shorewomen recorded top-five finishes at the meet. Freshman Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) led the way with a third-place finish in 35.77 in the 50 breaststroke. She was also 10th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.12. Junior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) was fourth in the 50 butterfly in 30.83 and seventh in the 50 freestyle in 28.69. Sophomore Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) placed fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.17. Freshman Laura Risell (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) was eighth in the 50 backstroke in 34.76, while senior Kimber Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) placed ninth in the same event in 35.31. Washington placed in the top 10 in both relays. Shoemaker, Moore, Gerhart, and Glasser were ninth in the 200 medley relay in 2:09.54. Gerhart, Moore, freshman Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Friends Central), and Glasser finished seventh in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.84. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday, January 13th, with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Goucher.
