3, 2007 GETTYSBURG, PA - Freshman Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) won two individual events, finished second in another, and became the Shorewomen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in three events as the Washington College women's swim team opened its 2007-08 season with a 146-59 loss to host Gettysburg College in a Centennial Conference meet this afternoon. Glasser won the 200 freestyle in 1:58.62 and the 200 butterfly in 2:12.65, becoming the school's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in both of those events. Prior to the 200 freestyle, she finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:49.80 - Washington's fastest time in that event in five years - to become the Shorewomen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. All four former WC swimmers ahead of Glasser in the 1000 freestyle were All-Americans. Senior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:16.71 and a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:26.29. Junior Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.66, just .06 behind the race winner. Sophomore Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) was third in the 200 backstroke in 2:18.50. Smith, Cole, sophomore Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area), and Morse were second in the 400 medley relay in 4:11.68. Smith, sophomore Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), sophomore Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep), and junior Anna Green (St. Louis, MO/Principia) were third in the 400 freestyle relay. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference home meet against Eastern Shore rival Salisbury.
