Morse And Gerhart Win Two Events Each

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Junior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) and freshman Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) won a pair of individual events as host Washington College topped visiting Ursinus College, 128-72, in a Centennial Conference women's swim meet this afternoon at the Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen are now 8-3 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial with the win. The Bears fall to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Gerhart set a career-best mark in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.72 and a WC season-best mark for the squad. She also captured the 50 freestyle in 25.97 seconds. Morse won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.72 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.35 seconds. Seniors Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), and sophomore Anna Green (St. Louis, MO/Principia) each won an event. Simons won the 400 individual medley (5:01.13), Shoemaker grabbed the 100 backstroke (1:02.53), while Green took home the 500 freestyle (5:40.95). The win for Green was her first ever first place finish in a collegiate event. Sophomore Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) had the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:14.83. The relay team of Shoemaker, freshman Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep), Gerhart and Simons captured victory in the 200 medley relay (1:56.45), while the 800 freestyle squad of Shoemaker, senior Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean), Simons and Morse established a season-best time in the event with a time of 8:22.58.

Auger and Thomas finished second in two events. Auger in the 200 freestyle (2:05.33) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.59), and Thomas in the 50 freestyle (26.53) and the 100 freestyle (58.30). Senior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel) was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:39.28), sophomore Brittany Siburt (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) grabbed second in the 400 individual medley (5:11.65), freshman Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) garnered second in the 100 butterly (1:04.21) and junior Nicole Ludwig (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) was the second fastest swimmer in the 100 breastroke (1:15.98). The team of freshman Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area), Cole, sophomore Rebecca Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) and senior Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline) placed second in the 200 medley relay (2:02.13).

Washington returns to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet on Senior Day against visiting McDaniel.
