Shorewomen Handle Sea Gulls, 138-67
Jones, Morse, Gerhart Win Two Events Each

SALISBURY, MD - The visiting Washington College women's swimming team sprinted past Eastern Shore rival Salisbury University, 138-67, tonight in Salisbury. The Shorewomen (1-1) got two individual first-place finishes each from senior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel), junior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul), and freshman Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area).

Jones won the 800-meter freestyle in a 1000-yard converted time of 11:37.31 and the 400-meter freestyle in a 500-yard converted time of 5:40.13. (All times from the meet, which was held in Salisbury's 25-meter pool, have been converted to their standard 25-yard equivalent times.) Morse finished first in the 200-meter freestyle in a converted time of 2:01.85 and the 100-meter freestyle in a converted time of 56.18. Gerhart captured the 50-meter freestyle in a converted time of 25.87 and the 100-meter butterfly in a converted time of 1:02.18.

Senior Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) won the 100-meter backstroke, setting a pool record with her converted time of 1:01.56. Liz Shoemaker, freshman Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep), Gerhart, and senior Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean) won the 200-meter medley relay in a converted time of 1:54.83.

Freshman Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) was second in both the 200-meter freestyle (2:07.61 converted) and the 400-meter freestyle (5:43.51, 500-yard converted). Other individual second-place finishes were recorded by: sophomore Cara Choplin (West Deptford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) in the 800-meter freestyle (11:45.93, 1000-yard converted), senior Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) in the 200-meter individual medley (2:23.08 converted), freshman Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) in the 100-meter butterfly (1:03.74 converted), senior Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline) in the 100-meter freestyle (58.46 converted), Auger in the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.44 converted), and Thomas in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.59) converted.

The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Franklin & Marshall.
