4, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Senior Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) broke the school and pool records in the 200 backstroke, but host Washington College fell to visiting Gettysburg College, 124-81, in a Centennial Conference women's swimming meet at Casey Swim Center this afternoon. The Shorewomen fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in Centennial meets, while the Bullets improved to 1-0 and 1-0. Shoemaker's record time of 2:12.11 won the 200 backstroke. Junior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) added a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:17.82, while freshman Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) became Washington's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 butterfly by winning that event in 2:17.76. Morse was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:29.27, senior Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean) was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.83, and freshman Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) was second in the 50 freestyle. Individual third-place finishes were turned in by freshman Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) in the 200 freestyle (2:07.96), sophomore Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.23), and senior Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline) in the 50 freestyle. Liz Shoemaker, freshman Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep), Gerhart, and Morse were second in the 400 medley relay in 4:11.98. Gerhart, Liz Shoemaker, senior Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley), and Auger were second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:50.80. Gerhart became tied for the seventh-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 freestyle with her lead-off leg time of 56.12 in the 400 freestyle relay. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Eastern Shore rival Salisbury.
