December 9, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Host Washington College won eight of 11 events en route to a 139-65 non-conference women's swimming victory over visiting Elizabethtown College this afternoon at Casey Swim Center. Freshman Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) became the Shorewomen's (6-2) fourth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 butterfly with her first-place and Washington College season-best time of 1:00.74 in the 100 butterfly. Senior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel), junior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul), and freshman Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) each won one individual event and finished second in another for the Shorewomen. Jones won the 1000 freestyle (11:41.43) and was second in the 500 freestyle (5:40.41), Morse won the 200 freestyle (2:02.62) and was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.76), and Smith was first in the 500 freestyle (5:36.89) and second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.19). Senior Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) won the 400 individual medley in 4:57.07, while senior Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) took the 100 backstroke in 1:01.96. Senior Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean) was second in the 50 freestyle (26.71) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.76). Sophomore Cara Choplin (West Deptford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) finished second in the 1000 freestyle (11:53.40), freshman Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.03), and sophomore Anna Green (St. Louis, MO/Principia) was second in the 100 freestyle (59.12). Washington also won both relays. Shoemaker, Morse, Gerhart, and Simons won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.47. Simons, Auger, Eisele, and Gerhart won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.41. After their annual training trip to Florida, the Shorewomen return to competition January 16th with a 5:00 p.m. meet at Goucher.
