Shorewomen Win Six Medals at Centennials
Gerhart Takes Gold in 50 Freestyle

LANCASTER, PA - The Washington College women's swim team won six medals and finished fifth of eight teams overall at the Centennial Conference Championships held Friday, Saturday, and today at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.

Freshman Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) tied for the gold medal in the 50 freestyle with a WC season-best time of 24.71, making her the Shorewomen's second-fastest swimmer ever in the event. Gerhart was fourth in the 100 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 59.05, becoming Washington's third-fastest swimmer ever in the event. She was also fifth in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.35.

Senior Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) won the silver medal in both individual medleys. She took silver in the 200 individual medley in a WC season-best time of 2:13.67 and took silver in the 400 individual medley in a WC season-best time of 4:48.65. Simons was also fourth in the 200 butterfly in 2:12.18.

Junior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) won silver in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.62 after swimming a WC season-best time of 1:56.47 in the preliminaries. Morse won her second silver of the meet in the 100 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 53.76. Morse was also fifth in the 500 freestyle in 5:16.87 after swimming a WC season-best time of 5:16.08 in the preliminaries.

Gerhart, Simons, senior Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean), and Morse won the bronze medal in the 200 freestyle relay in a school-record tying 1:40.80.

Senior Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) placed fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.25. Shoemaker placed seventh in the 200 backstroke in 2:15.09. She was also ninth in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.31, making her Washington's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Freshman Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) was fifth in the 200 backstroke in 2:12.99, becoming the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Smith also placed ninth in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.85 and is now Washington's third-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Smith became the Shorewomen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in the 500 freestyle with a preliminary time of 5:25.38.

The 400 medley relay team of Liz Shoemaker, freshman Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep), Gerhart, and Morse finished fourth in a WC season-best time of 4:05.74. Shoemaker broke the school record in the 100 backstroke by leading off the relay with a 1:00.83. The 200 medley relay team of Liz Shoemaker, Thomas, Gerhart, and Morse also finished fourth in a WC season-best time of 1:52.45.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Auger, Liz Shoemaker, Morse, and Simons finished fourth in a WC season-best time of 8:06.06. Simons swam a 2:01.01 lead-off leg to become Washington's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 freestyle.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Gerhart, Auger, Simons, and Morse were fourth in a WC season-best time of 3:39.51. Gerhart swam a 54.48 in the lead-off leg to become the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 freestyle.

Senior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel) finished seventh in the 1650 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 18:42.06, making her Washington's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event. She was also 15th in the 500 freestyle in 5:31.41.

Sophomore Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) was seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.62. She also swam a WC season-best time of 1:12.82 in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke and then placed ninth overall in that event.

Auger's time of 55.94 in the 100 freestyle, which placed her 11th, made her WC's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Her 13th-place time of 2:02.59 in the 200 freestyle made her Washington's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Thomas swam a 1:12.95 in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke to become the Shorewomen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event.
