December 8, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College women's swim team cruised to a 105-67 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Bryn Mawr College tonight at Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen (5-2, 1-2 Centennial) held a 105-25 lead through seven events before designating their remaining entries as exhibitions. Freshman Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) won two individual events for Washington. Gerhart won the 50 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 25.33, making her Washington's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in the event. She also captured the 100 freestyle in 56.21. Senior Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.24 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:04.38. Freshman Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) finished first in the 1000 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 11:27.90, senior Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean) won the 200 freestyle in 2:04.24, and junior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) took the 200 individual medley in 2:18.00. Senior Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) finished second in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.79 to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. The race marked Shoemaker's first butterfly event since her freshman year. Sophomore Brittany Siburt (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:31.97), sophomore Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:28.56), and freshman Caitlin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) was second in the 100 freestyle (57.40). Shoemaker, freshman Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep), Eisele, and Gerhart won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.43. Shorewomen swimmers accounted for the top times in the final four events as well, but did not score points due to being exhibition entries. Auger's time of 1:05.11 was the fastest in the 100 backstroke, Morses's time of 5:29.61 was the fastest in the 500 freestyle, and Thomas's time of 1:15.02 was the fastest in the 100 breaststroke. Morse, Auger, Simons, and senior Sidra Carman (Silver Spring, MD/Albert Einstein) turned in the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:45.74. The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. home meet against Elizabethtown.
