Morse Wins 100 Freestyle in Season Opener

GETTYSBURG, PA - The Washington College women's swim team dropped its season opener, 154-51, in a Centennial Conference meet this afternoon at Gettysburg College. Sophomore Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.55. Morse added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:16.55.

Morse's times in the 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley made her the fourth- and seventh-fastest swimmer, respectively, in school history in those events.

Juniors Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley), Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean) along with Morse placed second in the 400 medley relay in 4:17.54. Shoemaker would also go on to a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:18.93, while Auger finished third in the 50 freestyle in 26.47.

Freshman Brittany Siburt (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) finished third in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:39.42 for Washington.

Freshman Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) became the Shorewomen's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 breaststroke with her fourth-place time of 2:38.58.

The Shorewomen return to action in their home opener on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. against Eastern Shore rival Salisbury.
