Shorewomen Sink Sea Gulls
200 Medley Relay Breaks Pool Record

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College women's swim team won every event en route to a 153-52 victory over visiting Salisbury this evening at Casey Swim Center. The win evened the Shorewomen's record at 1-1 on the season. Salisbury dropped to 2-3 with the loss.

Freshman Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), senior Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood), junior Ana Prado (Ferrol, Spain/Tirso), and freshman Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a pool record 1:54.16.

Jones, Klag, Simons, and sophomore Becky Binns (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) each won two individual events. Jones was first in the 1000 freestyle in 11:09.05 and the 500 freestyle in 5:27.89, Klag won the 200 freestyle in 2:03.04 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.08, Simons finished first in the 200 individual medley in 2:18.98 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.77, and Binns won the 50 freestyle in 26.36 and the 100 freestyle in 58.47.

Simons became Washington's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in 100 backstroke and ninth-fastest ever in the 200 individual medley with her performances, while Jones became WC's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 freestyle. Klag's time in the 200 freestyle made her WC's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Prado accounted for the Shorewomen's other individual victory by winning the 100 butterfly in 1:02.07. The Shorewomen also won the 200 freestyle relay as freshman Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline), sophomore Ana Thomas (New Smyrna Beach, FL/Spruce Creek), freshman Sidra Carman (Silver Spring, MD/Albert Einstein), and Prado completed the race in 1:47.41.

WC finished second in six events. Senior Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) accounted for three of those second-place finishes, taking second in the 1000 freestyle (11:23.78), the 200 freestyle (2:07.70), and the 500 freestyle (5:36.85). Shoemaker finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.32), Carman was second in the 100 freestyle (59.18), and Binns was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.67). Shoemaker's time in the 100 butterfly made her the 10th-fastest WC swimmer ever in that event.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Ursinus.
