Shorewomen Handle E-Town, 142-61
Simons Swims Near-Record Time in 400 IM

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - The Washington College women's swim team won every contested event en route to a 142-61 win over host Elizabethtown in a non-conference meet this afternoon. Freshman Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) swam the second-fastest time ever by a Shorewomen in the 400 individual medley, placing first in 4:44.70.

Simons, whose time was nearly an NCAA "B Cut" time, was 2.38 seconds off of Washington's 400 individual medley record set by Stacy Sines last season. Simons also finished first in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.85. Senior Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood) also won two individual events, the 50 freestyle in 26.23, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.65.

Freshmen Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) and Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel), sophomore Becky Binns (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain), junior Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Richard Montgomery), and senior Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) each won one individual event. Shoemaker won the 200 freestyle in 2:06.15, Jones won the 1000 freestyle in 11:47.60, Rawson won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.76, Binns won the 100 freestyle in 58.73, and Myers won the 500 freestyle in 5:37.00.

The Shorewomen captured second place in seven individual events. Sophomore Chrissy Romano (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was second in both the 1000 freestyle (11:55.14) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.30). Rawson finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:08.39), Myers was second in the 400 individual medley (5:07.71), and Jones was second in the 500 freestyle (5:41.93). Freshman Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline) took second place in the 50 freestyle in 27.22, while junior Samantha Shaffer (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.51.

Washington also won the 200 medley relay as Shoemaker, Klag, Simons, and Binns finished in 1:55.88. The Shorewomen swam exhibition races only in the 200 freestyle relay, the meet's final event.

Shaffer and Rawson were each swimming in their first meet of the season after spending the first semester abroad.

The Shorewomen, now 3-2 on the season, return to action Friday evening with a 6:00 p.m. meet at Widener.
