Simons Fuels Win Over Dickinson
Freshman Swims B Cut, Breaks Two Records

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Freshman Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) broke one school record, broke one pool record, swam to an NCAA "B Cut" time, and won three individual events as host Washington College topped visiting Dickinson, 116-89, today in Centennial Conference women's swimming action at Casey Swim Center.

Simons swam to a school record time of 2:13.17 in the 200 individual medley to win her first event of the meet. She then swam to an NCAA "B Cut" time of 2:10.60 to win the 200 butterfly, breaking the pool record and making her WC's third-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Later in the meet, she added a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle, winning in 5:21.29.

Senior Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood) won two events. She took first place in the 100 freestyle in a lifetime-best time of 55.02 to become Washington's second-fastest swimmer ever in that event. She also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.53. Senior Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:20.25, while sophomore Chrissy Romano (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) took first place in the 200 backstroke in 2:18.90.

The Shorewomen won the 400 medley relay as well as freshman Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), junior Samantha Shaffer (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), junior Ana Prado (Ferrol, Spain/Tirso), and Klag completed the race in 4:11.53. Shoemaker led off the relay with a 1:02.99 leg to make her the school's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 backstroke.

Shoemaker, Prado, Shaffer, and junior Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Richard Montgomery) each captured one individual second-place finish. Shoemaker was second in the 200 freestyle (2:05.32), Prado in the 200 backstroke (2:22.80), Shaffer in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.16), and Rawson in the 200 butterfly (2:15.49).

The Shorewomen, now 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference, return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at McDaniel.
