WC Handles Ursinus
Klag, Vasquez Each Win Two Events

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College women's swim team defeated visiting Ursinus, 137-61, in Centennial Conference action this afternoon at Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference with the win. Junior Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood) and senior Pamela Vasquez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Delcampo Institute) each won two individual events for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen won nine of the 11 events in the meet. Klag won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.54 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.54, while Vasquez won the 200 and 500 freestyles in 2:03.20 and 5:28.63, respectively.

Junior Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) finished first in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall at 11:30.00. Sophomore Ana Prado (La Coruda, Spain/Tirso) won the 400 individual medley in 4:57.46, while senior Stacy Sines (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) won a close 100 butterfly race in 1:01.58. All three Shore entrants in the butterfly finished within eight-tenths of one second of each other; sophomore Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Montgomery) was second in 1:01.99 and senior Julie Meirs (Cream Ridge, NJ/Peddie) finished third in 1:02.25.

In addition to Rawson's performance in the butterfly, the Shorewomen took second-place in five other events in the meet. Rawson was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:58.76), Myers finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.91), freshman Ana Thomas (New Smyrna Beach, FL/Spruce Creek) finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.45), and senior Rebecca Sirman (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) was second in both the 400 individual medley (5:02.53) and the 500 freestyle (5:37.28).

Washington also took first in both relay events. Prado, Klag, Sines, and Meirs won the 200 medley in 1:57.15, while Sines, Rawson, senior Sara Hardy (Birchrunville, PA/Owen J. Roberts), and Vasquez won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.65.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday when they host Widener in a 6:30 p.m. meet.
