12, 2003 SWARTHMORE, PA - The Washington College Shorewomen won their final dual meet of the season this evening, defeating Swarthmore, 110-95. The win was the sixth in a row overall and fourth in a row over Swarthmore for the Shorewomen, who improved to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference with the victory. Seniors Pamela Vasquez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Delcampo Institute) and Stacy Sines (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) each won two events for the Shorewomen. Vasquez won the 1000 freestyle in a pool-record and WC season-best time of 10:45.39 and the 500 freestyle in 5:23.88, while Sines won the 100 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 54.97 and the 200 freestyle in 1:56.98. Senior Julie Meirs (Cream Ridge, NJ/Peddie) took first in the 200 butterfly in 2:14.21, while junior Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood) was first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.88 to round out the individual first-place finishes for WC. Klag, Meirs, freshman Ana Prado (La Coruna, Spain/Tirso) and freshman Ana Thomas (New Smyrna Beach, FL/Spruce Creek) won the 400 medley relay in 4:11.45. Senior Rebecca Sirman (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) swam to a WC season-best time of 2:16.72 to finish second in the 200 individual medley, while Prado swam a WC season-best time of 2:15.98 to finish second in the 200 backstroke. The Shorewomen actually notched their two fastest times of the year in the 200 backstroke, as Sirman swam a 2:16.34 to finish third. Sophomore Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Richard Montgomery) added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:15.62. Freshman Chrissy Romano (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) swam personal season-bests in the 200 backstroke, finishing fourth in 2:17.69, and in the 1000 freestyle, finishing fourth in 11:34.99. Junior Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) added a personal season-best in the 500 freestyle, finishing fourth in 5:32.66, while senior Sara Hardy (Birchrunville, PA/Owen J. Roberts) swam a personal season-best in the 200 freestyle, finishing third in 2:03.99. The Shorewomen will compete at the Centennial Conference Championships February 21st-23rd. |
