Shorewomen Swim Past Sea Gulls
Prado, Sines, Vasquez Each Win Two Events

SALISBBURY, MD - The Washington College women's swim team topped host Salisbury, 138-67, in a non-conference meet this evening to improve to 1-1 on the season. Sophomore Ana Prado (La Coruda, Spain/Tirso) and seniors Stacy Sines (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and Pamela Vasquez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Delcampo Institute) each won two individual events for the Shorewomen.

Prado took first-place in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:08.07 and in the 50-meter freestyle in 29.27. Sines won 100-meter freestyle in 1:03.47 and the 200-meter individual medley in 2:34.15. Vasquez finished first in the 400- and 800-meter freestyles in 4:49.83 and 9:39.35, respectively.

Junior Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood) and senior Rebecca Sirman (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) each recorded one individual first-place finish. Klag won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:18.76, while Sirman finished first in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:19.28. The Shorewomen's 200-meter medley relay team of Prado, sophomore Samantha Shaffer (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), senior Julie Meirs (Cream Ridge, NJ/Peddie), and Klag took first in 2:10.29.

In addition to their first-place finishes, the Shorewomen also captured second place in every individual event. Sophomore Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Montgomery) was second in no fewer than three events - the 800-meter freestyle (10:13.44), the 200-meter individual medley (2:41.00), and the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.48). Shaffer added two second-place finishes in the 50-meter freestyle (29.59) and in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:19.46), respectively.

Rouding out the WC second-place finishes were senior Sara Hardy (Birchrunville, PA/Owen J. Roberts) in the 200-meter freestyle (2:20.64), junior Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) in the 400-meter freestyle (5:01.20), Klag in the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.01), and Sirman in the 100-meter backstroke (1:14.25).

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Ursinus.
