Sines Breaks 12-Year Old School Record
Klag Adds B Cut Time in Win Over Owls

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College Shorewomen improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference with a 157-46 win over visiting Bryn Mawr today, but the top story of the meet came in an exhibition heat of the 400 individual medley where senior Stacy Sines (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) broke the longest-standing swim record at Washington College. Sines swam an NCAA B Cut time of 4:42.32 in the event, breaking the 12-year old record of 4:46.00 set by Kasey Carroll in 1991.

The performance by Sines was one of two NCAA B Cut times turned in by the Shorewomen this afternoon. Junior Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood) won the 100-yard breaststroke in an NCAA B Cut time of 1:08.56.

Klag's first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke was part of a WC effort that captured first place in every event of the meet. Klag also won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.13. Sines and senior Pamela Vasquez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Delcampo Institute) each took first-place in two individual scoring events as well. Sines won the 100 freestyle in 56.52 and the 200 individual medley in 2:17.54, while Vasquez won the 500 and 1000 freestyles in 5:32.25 and 11:11.06, respectively.

Sophomore Ana Prado (La Coruda, Spain/Tirso), freshman Ana Thomas (New Smyrna Beach, FL/Spruce Creek), and senior Rebecca Sirman (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) each won one individual event. Prado won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.50, Thomas the 50 freestyle in 27.09, and Sirman the 100 backstroke in 1:06.04.

The Shorewomen captured second place in all but one of the individual events. Sophomore Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Montgomery) and junior Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) each captured two second-place finishes - Rawson in the 50 freestyle (27.64) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.01) and Myers in the 200 freestyle (2:07.17) and the 500 freestyle (5:37.17).
