Shorewomen Sink Salisbury
WC Cruising Along at 3-0

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College women's swim team posted its second consecutive blowout dual meet victory, cruising past Eastern Shore-rival Salisbury University, 155.5-49.5, this evening at the Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen (3-0) took first place in each of the 11 events and have now captured first in 23 consecutive races.

Washington set the tone for the evening by capturing the top two spots in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. Senior Vanessa Makarewicz (Manchester, CT/Manchester), sophomore Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood), junior Julie Meirs (Cream Ridge, NJ/Peddie), and junior Sarah Cooper (Wilmington, DE/Tatnall) finished first in 1:55.08, while junior Sara Hardy (Birchrunville, PA/Owen J. Roberts), freshman Samantha Shaffer (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), freshman Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Montgomery), and sophomore Lindsey Summers (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) took second in 1:58.45.

Three Shorewomen each won two individual events. Junior Rebecca Sirman (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) won the 1000 freestyle (11:15.40) and the 200 individual medley (2:21.62), junior Pam Vasquez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Delcampo Institute) paced the 200 freestyle (2:00.79) and the 200 backstroke (2:16.18), and freshman Ana Prado (La Coruda, Spain/Tirso) won the 50 freestyle (25.89) and the 100 freestyle (57.30).

Washington's other individual firsts were turned in by Meirs in the 200 butterfly (2:13.19), sophomore Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) in the 500 freestyle (5:31.44), and Klag in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.51). Prado, Summers, Myers, and Vasquez took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:46.89.

In addition to winning each race, WC captured seven second-place finishes and went one-two-three in the 200 freestyle and 200 breaststroke.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Franklin & Marshall.
