Klag Breaks Own 200 Breast Record
WC Cruises to Win Over St. Mary's

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore Margaret Klag (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood) broke her own school record and swam to an NCAA qualifying time in the 200 breaststroke for the second time this season as the Washington College Shorewomen posted a 158-47 home win over St. Mary's (MD) this evening at the Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen improve to 9-0 this season and have won 21 consecutive dual meets.

Klag's time of 2:27.17 in the 200 breast was nearly 17 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and shaved .22 seconds off the school mark she set earlier this season at the ECAC Championships.

The Shorewomen took first place in each of the 11 events in the meet. Juniors Pam Vasquez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Delcampo Institute) and Stacy Sines (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and freshman Ana Prado (La Coruda, Spain/Tirso) won two individual events each. Vasquez finished first in the 1000 freestyle (11:02.27) and the 200 backstroke (2:15.67). Her time in the backstroke was a WC season best. Sines set WC season bests in each of her wins, finishing the 200 individual medley in 2:15.29 and the 500 freestyle in 5:17.24. Prado's first-place finishes came in the 50 freestyle (25.91) and the 100 freestyle (56.55).

Juniors Julie Meirs (Cream Ridge, NJ/Peddie) and Sara Hardy (Birchrunville, PA/Owen J. Roberts) accounted for the other two individual first-place finishes. Meirs won the 200 butterfly in 2:13.59, while Hardy took the 200 freestyle in 2:03.95.

The Shorewomen also finished second in six of the nine individual events. In freestyle events, Sophomore Carolyn Myers (Lititz, PA/Linden Hall School for Girls) was second in the 1000 in 11:23.64, junior Sarah Cooper (Wilmington, DE/Tatnall) was second in the 200 in 2:04.65, and Hardy was second in the 500 in 5:32.59. Freshmen Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Richard Montgomery) placed second in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.95 and later swam an exhibition heat of the same event in 2:13.26, a personal-best time.
