2009 ALLENTOWN, PA -- Host Muhlenberg College won both games of a Centennial Conference softball double-header today against visiting Washington College. The Mules (12-10, 7-1 Centennial) rallied to win game one, 3-2, and posted a 5-0 victory over the Shorewomen (8-13, 0-6) in game two. Washington took a 1-0 lead in the opener when sophomore shortstop Jes Van Gosen (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) scored on a fielder's choice in the third inning. The score remained 1-0 until the Shorewomen tacked on their second run in the top of the seventh when freshman right fielder Gabby Devaud (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) singled and later scored on a single by freshman third baseman Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park). The Mules rallied in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, tying the score on a two-run single by Samantha Crist and won the game on a two-out RBI single by Jess Kasza. Kasza was 3-for-4 in the win for the Mules, while Allie Saltstein went 2-for-3. Ashley Brewer picked up the win, allowing two runs on five hits and five walks while striking out six. Freshman center fielder Leigh Carbutt (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) was was 2-for-2 with a walk in the loss for the Shorewomen, while senior pitcher Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks. In the second game, the Mules scored two runs in the second and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Muhlenberg tacked on its fifth run in the fourth inning. Alyssa Bruckner pitched the shut out for the Mules, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five. Brittany Blohm went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Muhlenberg, while Crist doubled and scored two runs. Freshman left fielder Jordan Tryhubenko (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney) doubled in the loss for Washington. Freshman pitcher Meaghan Kimme (Lumberton, NJ/Holy Cross) took the loss, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and a walk. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home double-header against Ursinus. |
