Bullets Win and Tie Versus Shorewomen
Devaud Homers Her Way Into WC Record Book

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Freshman Gabby Devaud (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) became the first Shorewoman to hit a home run in three consecutive game and hit four home runs in three straight games for Washington College against visiting Gettysburg College in a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader this afternoon at Washington College Softball Field. The Bullets won game one by a 9-5 score, while the second game was called after the seventh inning tied 4-4 due to darkness. Gettysburg is now 19-8-1 and 4-3-1 in the Centennial, while Washington is now 8-16-1 and 0-9-1.

Devaud hit home runs in both ends of a doubleheader versus Ursinus on Wednesday, April 8 and hit two longballs in the first game of today's twinbill.

In game one, Gettysburg scored one in the top of the first when Erin Ober scored on a two-out single by Sarah Woodbury to take a 1-0 lead. Washington tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Devaud hit her first home run of the game to straight away centerfield with two away.

The Bullets loaded the bases with no out in the top of the third, but after two force plays at the plate still had them loaded with two outs. Jessica Wallick then hit a bases clearing double to right-center to put give Gettysburg a 4-1 lead. The Bullets scored two more runs in the fourth, on a two-out two-run two-bagger by Ober. In the bottom of the fifth, Devaud hit her second home of the game to straight away center to cut the Gettysburg lead to 6-2.

Gettysburg scored three in the top of the sixth to extend its lead to 9-2. With the Bullets ahead 7-2 and with two outs, Ober hit a two-run homer to center to give the guests a 9-2 cushion. The Shorewomen scored three run in the bottom of the seventh to trim it to 9-5, highlighted by an RBI triple by senior Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase). It was her first three-base hit since 2006.

For Gettysburg, Kristy Rubino picked up the win and improves to 9-5 on the season. She went the distance and struck out five. At the plate, Ober was 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead the way for the Bullets. Wallack drove in three teammates in the win. For Washington, Devaud was 2-for-3 with two home runs and two RBI and Adams was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. In the circle, Adams took the loss and falls to 6-8 despite tossing her eighth complete game of 2009.

In game two, Washington scored a run in the bottom of the second to grab a 1-0 lead on a single by freshman Tori Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) that knocked in fellow classmate, Margaret Rohde (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Academy of Home Education). The Bullets would even the game in the fifth with an unearned run. Nicole Yannotta drove in Caitlin Bay with a two out double to tie the game at 1-1.

Gettysburg scored two runs in the sixth to grab a 3-1 lead, both unearned runs. Ober put the visitors up 2-1 when she scored from second on a sacrifice bunt and Adrienne Rahs made it 3-1 when she crossed the plate on a double off the bat of Kara Kempski.

Washington answered right back with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the sixth to tie it at 3-3. Ripple drew a bases loaded walk to force in Rohde to trim the lead to 3-2. The Shorewomen tied the game when Devaud scored on a fielder's choice.

Gettysburg took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh. With Yannotta on third and Ober on first, Woodbury hit a grounder to second base to drive in Yannotta to put the Bullets up 4-3. Ober was tagged out at third base for the third out, but the run scored prior to the third out and the guests took a one run lead into the bottom of the seventh.

The Shorewomen tied it in the bottom of the seventh to level the game once again. With two outs, Devaud got her fourth hit of the doubleheader when she singled to left field to plate freshman Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park). Following the inning, the game was called due to darkness.

In game two for the visitors, Yannotta was 2-for-3, while Woodbury had two RBI. In the circle, Beth McCullough started before giving way to Rubino in the sixth after McCullough failed to retire any of the first four batters she faced. For the hosts in the nightcap, Devaud and Rohde each had two hits, with Rohde scoring two runs. Ripple drove in a team-best two runs in game two. In the circle, freshman Meaghan Kimme (Lumberton, NJ/Holy Cross) tossed the first six innings and Adams pitched the seventh. Kimme gave up no earned runs in her six innings of work.

The Shorewomen return to action on Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. conference doubleheader against visiting Swarthmore.
