Bears Goose Egg Shorewomen In DH Sweep
Russell With A Hit In Both Games For WC

COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Host Ursinus College won both ends of a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader over visting Washington College this afternoon at Eleanor Frost Snell Field. The Bears (17-6, 4-0 Centennial) won game one, 4-0, and downed the Shorewomen (7-11, 2-2 Centennial) for a 7-0 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Ursinus snapped a 0-0 tie when Jennie Moore hit a two-out two-run single to right-center plating Katie Gallagher and Kristina Moore to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. The Bears doubled their lead in the bottom of the sixth when they scored two more runs with two outs on a fielding error by Washington to make it 4-0 and provide the final margin.

For Ursinus, Lauren Davis picked up the win and improves to 12-3. She tossed a complete game three-hit shutout. She struck out nine batters and walked just one. For the Shorewomen, junior Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was on the short end of the decision and falls to 4-4. She allowed just six hits and two earned runs.

For the Bears, Jennie Moore went 1-for-3 with two RBI. For Washington, senior Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara), senior Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian (DE) and Adams each had a hit each.

In game two, Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a Tracy Olsen single that scored Sarah Hennessey. The Bears busted open the game with a six-run fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. The inning was capped by a three-run blast by Jennie Moore.

Davis tossed her second complete game of the day, improving to 13-3. She struck out eight in the shutout victory. Davis allowed just one hit, a single by Russell with two outs in the top of the seventh to break up the no-hit bid. For the vistors, senior Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) took the loss, allowing all seven runs in 3 2/3 innings and is now 2-5. Sophomore Caitlin McElroy (Bricktown, NJ/Brick Township) tossed 2 1/3 innings of perfect ball.

Hennessey and Olsen each had two hits and an RBI in the second game, with Hennessey also scoring two runs.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday when they travel to Gettysburg for a 1:00 p.m. conference twin bill.
