WC Wins First, Drops Second in Florida Finale
Shorewomen Defeat Anderson, Fall to Lake Forest

KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team won one game and lost another as the Shorewomen finished their eight-game slate at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, today. The Shorewomen (3-7) defeated Anderson, 5-2, in their first game of the day and fell to Lake Forest, 9-3, in their second game.

The Shorewomen held a 2-0 lead on Anderson before the Ravens scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth to tie the score at 2-2. Washington then plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull ahead. Senior outfielder Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a double by senior outfielder Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert). Three batters later, senior catcher Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institue of Notre Dame) drove in Travers with a single. Senior third baseman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) drove in senior second baseman Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE) with a single to provide Washington's fifth run of the game.

Russell went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and one RBI in the win over Anderson, while Travers was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored and Campbell was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior pitcher Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) went the distance to get the victory over the Ravens, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. Erin Garrity was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss for Anderson.

Against Lake Forest, Washington fell behind, 2-0, in the top of the second inning. The Shorewomen tied the score in the bottom of the third as freshman outfielder Becca Nicely (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored on a fielder's choice and Russell drove in Travers with a double. Shelby Neill belted a two-run home run to center field in the top of the fourth inning to put the Foresters back in front, 4-2. Another two-run home run to center field, this one by Christy Condon in the top of the fifth inning, increased the Lake Forest lead to 6-2. The Shorewomen got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Luterzo tripled to right center and scored on a single by Russell to make it 6-3, but the Foresters scored twice in the top of the sixth inning and once in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to six runs.

Jill Pfund finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored for Lake Forest, while Sarah Brusig was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Kendra Grant got the win, allowing three runs, only one of them earned, on nine hits. Luterzo went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored for the Shorewomen, while Russell was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 2:30 p.m. double-header at Wesley.
