Shorewomen 50/50 With Mules
WC Scores Four Runs In Last At-Bat To Win Game One

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College split a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader against visiting Muhlenberg College this afternoon at Washington College Softball Field. The host Shorewomen (9-21, 4-12 CC) won game one, 9-8, while the Mules (8-28, 4-12 CC) grabbed game two, 8-0, in six innings due to the eight-run rule. It was the season finale for both teams.

In game one, the game was tied 5-5 going into the seventh inning. Muhlenberg had scored one run in the top of the first inning and four in the top of the third, while Washington scored one in the bottom of the second and four in the bottom of the fifth. The Mules scored three runs in the top half of the seventh to take an 8-5 lead on a three-run home run by Samantha Crist.

Washington responded with four runs in its half of the seventh to win the game. With the bases loaded, senior Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) drove in senior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) on an error to cut the lead to 8-6. Washington cut the lead to 8-7 when senior Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) singled up the middle to drive in junior Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase). The Shorewomen knotted the game at 8-8 when freshman Jes Van Gosen (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) walked with the bases loaded, scoring junior Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's). Senior Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) recorded the walk-off hit when she singled down the right field line to plate Carroll.

For the Mules in game one, Allie Saltstein was 3-for-3, while Crist and RiRi Ferrigno both drove in three runs. Alyssa Bruckner took the loss in relief and falls to 2-6.

For the Shorewomen in the opener, Adams and Pastorino each had three hits, while Travers had three RBI and two hits. Luterzo and Pastorino both knocked in two runs, whilel Adams and Proctor scored two runs. Senior Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) picked up the win and improves to 3-8.

In game two, the Mules scored three times in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Jess Kasza drove in first run on a single and then the Mules scored two more on a Shorewomen throwing error.

Ferrigno made it 5-0 in the top of the second with two-run double and in the top of the third, RBI hits by Alyssa Epstein and Ashley Brewer gave Muhlenberg a 7-0 bulge. The Mules scored their final run of the contest on a double by Crist that drove in Kasza to make it 8-0 in the top of the sixth.

For Muhlenberg in game two, Crist, Epstein, Kasza and Lauren Fedor all had two hits, with Ferrigno driving in two runs. Brewer picked up the victory in the circle and improves to 2-7. For Washington, Laque took the loss and falls to 3-9.
