2008 GETTYSBURG, PA -- Host Gettysburg College and visiting Washington College each came away with a one-run win as the two teams split a Centennial Conference softball double-header this afternoon. The Shorewomen (8-12, 3-3 Centennial) won game one, 4-3, while the Bullets (11-10, 3-5) took the second game, 7-6. Washington plated what would prove to be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning when junior pitcher Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) drove in senior catcher Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institue of Notre Dame) with a double. The Shorewomen had built a 3-1 lead in the game before the Bullets played two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score. Adams and Proctor each went 3-for-4 with two doubles in the opener. Proctor scored two runs, while Adams drove in a pair. Senior outfielder Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) doubled and scored a run, while senior second baseman Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE) doubled and drove in a run. Adams also went the distance in the circle to get the win, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk. Nicole Yannotta went 2-for-4 with a triple in the opener for the Bullets. Gettysburg jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game before the Shorewomen tied the score by scoring four runs in the third and two in the fifth. The Bullets scored what would prove to be the game-winning run on an RBI ground out by Jessica Wallick in the bottom of the fifth. Erin Ober went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored in the second game for Gettysburg. Russell had three hits, an RBI, and two runs scored in the second game for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference double-header at Franklin & Marshall. |
