2008 BRYN MAWR, PA -- Jilly Forde scored the game-winning goal on a rebounding shot with 1:13 left in the the second overtime to give host Bryn Mawr College a 2-1 double-overtime Centennial Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Bryn Mawr, PA. In a prelude of things to come, Bryn Mawr (5-11-1, 1-9 Centennial) got on the board first as Forde knocked in the rebound from a shot by Laura Costanzo at 24:22. The Shorewomen (1-15, 0-9) knotted the score when senior midfielder Aliina Lahti (Cheyenne, WY/Central) scored her first collegiate career goal from 20 yards out off an assist from freshman defender/midfielder Gabby Devaud (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) at 32:59. The Owls held a 14-3 advantage in shots in the first half. Neither team managed to score in the second half as the Owls got off 12 shots to the Shorewomen's seven. Washington junior goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) saved a shot by Bryn Mawr's Akua Nyame-Mensah in the 90th minute to stop the final scoring chance of regulation. In the first overtime, Bryn Mawr tallied five shots, while Washington had one. In the second overtime, the Owls held an 8-1 advantage in shots. Forde's game-winner came when she fired in a shot off a rebound of a shot by Emily Wiseman at 108:47. Grier finished with a career-high 23 saves in the loss for Washington, while Collette Pullion made five saves for Bryn Mawr. The Shorewomen finish their 2008 season Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Dickinson. |
