18, 2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Division II Wilmington University defeated host Washington College, 5-0, in a women's soccer game tonight on Kibler Field a Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Wildcats improved to 6-2 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 0-7 with the loss. Begum Malali scored Wilmington's first two goals to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead at halftime. Her first goal came off an assist from Nicole Meis at 20:04 and her second came from Kirsten Stallone at 30:08. Chelsea Genco scored back-to-back goals for Wilmington to open the second half scoring, scoring off a direct kick at 53:08 and knocking in another unassisted tally at 56:57. Ashli Gerlach added the Wildcats' fifth goal at 67:40. Wilmington enjoyed a 23-1 advantage in shots in the game and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Washington sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) made 10 saves for the Shorewomen in the loss, while Chrissy Bevenour made one stop for Wilmington. The Shorewomen return to action Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Franklin & Marshall. |
