20, 2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting McDaniel College rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to post a 3-1 Centennial Conference women's soccer victory over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Green Terror improved to 3-13 and 2-6 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 1-15 and 0-8 with the loss. Washington took a 1-0 lead when junior forward Sarah Yarbrough (Golden, CO/Arvada West) sent a ball ahead to senior forward Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE), who booted the ball into the net at 28:37. The Shorewomen took the 1-0 lead into the break as Washington maintained a 6-3 edge in shots in the first half. The Green Terror tied the score at the 65:48 mark when Brittany Baer beat a defender, dribbled to the goal, and scored. McDaniel scored the go-ahead goal when Kelley Scheler played the ball ahead to Sarah Wallace who sprinted to the goal and fired the ball in at 75:24. Baer tacked on an insurance goal off a cross from Wallace at 85:47. Leanne Hollinger made two saves in goal for McDaniel, while sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School (DE)) made a pair of stops for Washington. Each team got off 11 shots in the game, while McDaniel had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Bryn Mawr. |
