Saints, Wolverines Win at Kick-Off Classic
Sarah Yarbrough Scores Goal for Washington in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Marymount University and Wesley College were winners on day one of the Washington College Kick-Off Classic women's soccer tournament today on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium Marymount defeated the host Shorewomen, 2-1, this afternoon in the opening game of the tournament, while Wesley handled the College of Notre Dame (MD), 9-0, tonight in the second game. All four teams were opening their 2007 seasons.

In the opening game, Marymount took a 1-0 lead on an own goal at 5:51. The own goal came after a Washington defender tried to knock a Marymount corner kick out of the box, but sent it into the net. The Saints increased their lead to 2-0 when Blair Parker stole the ball from a defender and scored at 37:00. The Saints held an 8-4 advantage in shots in the first half.

Washington got on the board at 59:59 as junior forward Sarah Yarbrough (Golden, CO/Arvada West) corralled a loose ball and scored on a breakaway. The Shorewomen were unable to knot the score, however, as the Saints held on for the win.

Marymount enjoyed a 16-11 advantage in shots in the game and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Elise Gebauer played the first half in goal for Marymount, making one save; Lauren Harris made three saves and allowed one goal in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) made nine saves in goal for the Shorewomen.

Wesley jumped on top of Notre Dame early in the second game, getting goals from Gina Orrben at 6:32 and Jessie Nino at 7:54. Alaina Kustner assisted on Orrben's goal, while Heather Johnson assisted on Nino's. Nino scored again, this time off a feed from Kyle Savidge, at 13:44, and Kustner followed with a goal off an assist from Orrben at 16:01. Katie Chiolan added an unassisted goal at 26:35 and Brittany Novak knocked in a rebounded shot from Jessica Trenkamp at 37:51 to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Wolverines at halftime. Wesley enjoyed a 15-1 advantage in shots in the opening half.

Savidge opened the second half scoring with a goal off an assist from Lauren Tarvar at 49:05. Nino completed a hat trick with her third goal of the game at 73:07. Tarvar then scored a goal of her own at 75:30 to round out the scoring.

Wesley goalkeeper Brittany Block played all 90 minutes of the shutout, but did not need to make a save. Notre Dame goalkeeper Courtney Zgraggen made 11 stops for the Gators.

Marymount will play Notre Dame at 4:00 p.m. and the Shorewomen will take on Wesley at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Washington College Kick-Off Classic.
