2009 YORK, PA -- The Washington College women's rowing team won the first varsity eight and finished second overall among nine teams at today's Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships held at Gifford Pinchot State Park in York County, PA. Mary Washington captured the overall conference championship. The Shorewomen won their heat of the first varsity eight in 7:06.46. Franklin & Marshall was second in 7:16.89, Bryn Mawr third in 7:21.26, and Richard Stockton fourth in 7:30.02. In the grand finals, Washington was first in 7:50.40, Mary Washington second in 7:56.49, Franklin & Marshall third in 6:03.86, Marietta fourth in 8:08.7, Bryn Mawr fifth in 8:25.78, and North Park sixth in 9:24.25. Junior Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight. Junior Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) sat stroke, senior Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) was in the seven seat, sophomore Sarah Holland (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) was in the six seat, junior Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) sat in the five seat, junior Emily Hofler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) was in the four seat, sophomore Catherine Black (Kimberton, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) sat in the three seat, senior Nicole Rousseau (Burlington, CT/Miss Porter's School) was in the two seat, and freshman Ellen Liebenow (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was the bow. The only other race the Shorewomen entered was the second varsity eight, where they finished second in 7:28.09 behind first-place Mary Washington, who finished in 7:20.36. Bryn Mawr was third in 7:54.54, Franklin & Marshall fourth in 7:56.71, and Mary Washington's novice fifth in 8:05.44. Freshman Kelsie Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the coxswain for the Shorewomen's second varsity eight. Junior Caroline Perry (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) sat stroke, sophomore Christine Lynch (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) was in the seven seat, freshman Kendall Mulligan (Southbury, CT/Westover School) sat in the six seat, freshman Sarah Ruh (New Preston, CT/Kent School) was in the five seat, freshman Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) sat in the four seat, junior Sarah Strickland (Potomac, MD/Holton-Arms) ) was in the three seat, freshman Aziza Temple (Framingham, MA/Framingham) sat in the two seat, and freshman Diane Hagmann (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was the bow. The Shorewomen return to action May 9th and 10th at the ECAC National Invitational Championships in Cherry Hill, NJ. |
