March 29,
2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's rowing team won both the first and second varsity eight races against Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference rival Franklin & Marshall this morning on the Chester River. The Shorewomen won the first varsity eight in 6:41, pulling away from the Diplomats, who finished in 6:54, during the second 1,000 meters of the 2,000-meter course. In the second varsity eight, the Shorewomen posted a winning time of 8:01, 29 seconds better than F&M's 8:30. Races were delayed one half hour due to heavy morning fog. A 45-minute steady rain helped dissipate the fog. As the skies cleared, the winds picked up, providing for more challenging conditions as the regatta progressed. Junior Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the coxswain for the Shorewomen's first varsity eight. Junior Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) sat stroke, senior Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) was in the seven seat, sophomore Sarah Holland (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) was in the six seat, junior Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) sat in the five seat, junior Emily Hofler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) was in the four seat, freshman Kendall Mulligan (Southbury, CT/Westover School) sat in the three seat, sophomore Christine Lynch (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) was in the two seat, and junior Caroline Perry (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) was the bow.
