2009 CHERRY HILL, NJ -- The 14th-ranked Washington College women's rowing team competed at the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships, held yesterday and today on the Cooper River in New Jersey. The regatta was cut short before the final races due to high winds and dangerous currents. The first varsity eight finished fourth in its five-boat heat in 7:11.940. Top-ranked Williams won the race in 6:36.790, seventh-ranked Smith was second in 7:01.230, Simmons was third in 7:08.500, and Hamilton was fifth in 7:33.510. In its semifinal race, the first varsity eight was third in 7:10.332. Colby won the race in 7:05.192, 15th-ranked Tufts was second in 7:06.588, Tulane was fourth in 7:13.476, and Franklin & Marshall was fifth in 7:38.965. The first varsity eight would have competed against Colby, 10th-ranked Skidmore, Tufts, Marietta, and Mary Washington in the third-level final had the regatta been completed. The second varsity eight was fifth in its five-boat heat in 7:43.568. Fourth-ranked Ithaca was first in 7:01.249, seventh-ranked Smith was second in 7:03.540, third-ranked Trinity was third in 7:07.088, and 13th-ranked Wellesley was fourth in 7:14.389. The second varsity eight would have competed against 12th-ranked William Smith, 10th-ranked Skidmore, and 11th-ranked Mount Holyoke in the third level final had the regatta been completed. Junior Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight. Junior Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) sat stroke, senior Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) was in the seven seat, sophomore Sarah Holland (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) was in the six seat, junior Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) sat in the five seat, junior Emily Hofler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) was in the four seat, freshman Kendall Mulligan (Southbury, CT/Westover School) sat in the three seat, senior Nicole Rousseau (Burlington, CT/Miss Porter's School) was in the two seat, and freshman Ellen Liebenow (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was the bow Freshman Kelsie Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the coxswain for the Shorewomen's second varsity eight. Junior Caroline Perry (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) sat stroke, sophomore Christine Lynch (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) was in the seven seat, sophomore Catherine Black (Kimberton, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) sat in the six seat, freshman Sarah Ruh (New Preston, CT/Kent School) was in the five seat, freshman Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) sat in the four seat, junior Sarah Strickland (Potomac, MD/Holton-Arms) ) was in the three seat, freshman Aziza Temple (Framingham, MA/Framingham) sat in the two seat, and freshman Diane Hagmann (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was the bow. The Shorewomen now await word on a possible berth to the NCAA Division III Championships. Selections are scheduled to be announced on Tuesday. |
